Why You Need Dental Implants

Dental ImplantsIf you have lost teeth, you need dental implants.  However, tooth loss is not the only reason to consider the procedure.  Implants are a modern solution to an age-old problem.  As people age, they can fall victim to gum disease and tooth decay which can lead to a variety of oral health issues.  Implant dentistry corrects these problems so you can focus on enjoying life.

Here are some of the reasons patients need implants.

  • Tooth loss.  Losing your teeth can be devastating.  Patients became embarrassed, wishing they had their old teeth back.  It can make it difficult to eat and to speak.  While dentures are a solution, they can never give you full functionality back without spending more time than necessary on oral care.  Implants can.
  • Crooked teeth.  When people have a crooked smile they typically pay a visit to the orthodontist.  What many patients don’t realize is that once the braces are off their teeth will continue to move and potentially ruin the dental work they just paid for.  Dental implants are interesting because they fix your smile permanently.  By replacing your current root system with a synthetic one,,, they are effectively positioning the new tooth exactly where you want it.
  • Damaged teeth.  If your teeth are severely damaged from lack of care or treatments, it may be rather traumatic to visit the dentist and learn you have a wide variety of problems.  Take encouragement in the fact that you can correct many of those issues with dental implants.  Dr. Hoang can remove the damaged tooth and root system then replace it with the synthetic ones.
  • Tired of dentures.  Patients often get tired of having to wear dentures.  They don’t like the hassle of having to clean them and take them out on a regular basis.  Implants make it, so you never have the search for your teeth.  Once installed, they are there permanently.

Once you have decided to obtain dental implants it is time to start the procedure.  It cannot be done in one sitting, but is rather a process that requires specific steps.  You will first need a dental examination to show that your teeth and gums are in good health.  If not, you may need to have some corrective work completed prior to starting the implanting procedure.

The dentist will make a mold of your mouth so that synthetic teeth can be created.  They will be matched perfectly to your current shade of pearly whites.

A metal piece is implanted under the gum line and secured to the jawbone.  This step is what keeps your tooth in place and ensures that you can eat and speak like normal without worrying about your teeth falling out.  It can take a couple of months for this part of the procedure to be completed. Once secure, your dentist will attach a small metal piece that will then be used as the synthetic root system.  Your new tooth will be customized further in office and implanted on your appointment date.  Work with a professional that you can feel comfortable with and confident in.  Call Dr. Hoang at (215) 545-0660
